The Velvet Glory that these beats refer to might be found in Warhol’s Factory circa , a time and sound that The Molochs eagerly hark back to while precariously contemplating their own stake in the modern world. The guitars jangle, the organ whines, and singer Lucas Fitzsimons drawls a diary of street-smart angst in tradition with the best of them, from Jonathan Richman to Gordon Gano.

THE MOLOCHSAmerica’s Velvet Glory **** Innovative Leisure. True, naming a band after the ancient pagan god of child sacrifice isn’t necessarily the way to make friends and influence people.

Jan 12,  · It may be the start of , but The Molochs’ new album, America’s Velvet Glory would have you believe we’re square in the middle of the s. The LA band, led by singer/songwriter Lucas Fitzsimons, pulls inspiration from the past to deliver songs that would have fit nicely in the Britpop rock era; although, there’s a smidge more grime under the fingernails of The Molochs’ sound.

The Molochs’ America’s Velvet Glory is a love-letter to guitar rock, though not in the sense that the tracks are packed with searing solos or especially complex fretwork. The album is simply drenched in guitar, from cheery acoustic chords, warbling melodic lines to bluesy arpeggiations. It’s largely steeped in jangly Eighties rock, with flecks of psychedelic folk and surfer nonchalance.
