Their albums started out as oldies compilations, many of them simulated radio shows by Jerry Blavat and other oldies deejays. Both the store and the label flourished. From there, The Record Museum opened a slew of additional stores — ultimately 23 stores in all — and Lost Nite became one of the foremost oldies reissue labels in the country, specializing in doo-wops and group vocals.
Jerry Greene established a new label, Collectables, inwhich reissued some of the Lost Nite collections, particularly when CDs became popular. That label has since become the foremost reissue label in the business.
As a reissue label, Lost Nite was not particularly concerned with stereo recordings, and for that reason, most of their albums were mostly or totally rechanneled until quite late by industry standards.
Neither did they particularly care much about sound quality, as most of the albums were mastered from records, as you can hear surface noise even on a mint album. Even after the changeover to Collectables, their early CDs often were riddled with surface noise and other artifacts.
