Oct 14, Heather Martin rated it really liked it. Beckett is the oldest brother in the family and he takes that position very seriously. Too seriously. This book is full of easy to love characters! I loved Beckett and his brothers. I loved their receptionists and everything that happens regarding that.
It absolutely shows what kind of men the Thorne brothers are. But I respected her. She was driven to succeed to prove to her father she could. But, she grew on me. The more I got to know her in the story, the more I liked her. This first book in the series was definitely about setting up the series and giving a backstory to the family. The first part of the book was spent with them fighting against each other, then they agree to have a benefits only relationship and then they had love.
It just felt like a superficial relationship and I was disappointed with that. I just really would have liked more relationship between Beckett and Sam. She brought these characters to life. They were full of life and quirky and funny and sarcastic. They were a family, with all of its imperfections and all of its love. Rating: 4 stars Jul 03, Bette Hansen rated it it was amazing.
I am absolutely, head over heels in love with these Thorn Brothers and this new series!! Please don't make me wait long for more. I've read several books by this author and this series just cements me as a huge fan. Her writing style is fun and relaxed, her characters lovable but flawed and this band of brothers she's created are just yummy.
Each with there own bit of quirky but yummy just the same. This book is Beckett's story. He's the oldest, the protector and he has always taken on that resp I am absolutely, head over heels in love with these Thorn Brothers and this new series!!
He's the oldest, the protector and he has always taken on that responsibility for his brothers willingly. With the example his parents set he doesn't believe in relationship or love. That is until Samantha Devine crashes into his life and heart like a freight train. I loved everything about this book especially that ending! More please. I highly recommend this one. The Thorne brothers were separated but found each other again except for one brother they are still looking to find. But the brothers now work together and this book covers Beck's story. Beck and Sam have a past together but now they are both working toward the same construction job. But while battle for the job they each are battling their old feelings along with some new ones.
Enjoyed reading their story and can't wait for more from the brothers. Jun 28, Rhonda rated it really liked it. Strong story of love and family Give it Up is the first book and an impressive start for Lee Kilraine's Thorne Brothers series.
The story grabbed my attention from the very start and kept it through to the Epilogue. Sam and Beck are both well developed likable characters as were all of the Thorne brothers and I look forward to their stories. I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley. This is a good start to what I hope will be an amazing series. Beckett is the oldest of the Thorne Brothers. He takes being the oldest to heart. He loves his brothers and they are the only ones he trusts. He is very protective of them. He takes on the burden of decisions and problems. Their childhood was harsh and they were separated until he was old enough to get everyone together with the exception of one brother.
They are vy This is a good start to what I hope will be an amazing series. They are vying for a job that will put them ahead in the construction design industry. The only problem is there is another company also up for the contract. Samantha is on a mission to prove to her dad that she can succeed working in the industry.
She thinks all men are chauvinist. When the eccentric owner of the project they are vying for makes them work together; things get interesting. They share a past that keeps them sweating in the heat. This was a sexy story of two people with trust issues falling in love in spite of and despite their egos and insecurities getting in the way. Their chemistry was hot. This one was funny! Sam's inner monologue cracked me up! And watching Beckett slide into love by accident and then panic also gave me a satisfying chuckle.
There are some really lovely sibling relationships in this one, and Lee Kilraine did a great job investing you in their struggles. I do have one bone to pick. I understand that as a writer you don't want to get in trouble with licencing issues. BUT she named Raleigh's hockey team the Roughnecks. As a Raleigh girl, we are very proud of our spo This one was funny! As a Raleigh girl, we are very proud of our sports teams. The Roughnecks are a baseball team in Dallas. If you are going to rename the Carolina Hurricanes, pick something that is totally original or put a smug note in the front saying that any resemblance to the Hurricanes is incidental.
On the other hand, she really captured the spirit of the good old boy community in Raleigh. She had this quote about choosing a designer I loved. It went something like, "If you had to choose between someone with a great portfolio and someone your sister's friend's aunt who won first prize at the state fair for her peach cobbler you are going to pick the cobbler.
I would happily read the rest of the series! Apr 29, Heather andrews rated it it was amazing. Beck's woman has no problem calling him out, "you heard me. I want a do-over. Right now. Jun 12, LJT rated it really liked it. This is the first novel from her brand new series The Thorne Brothers, and it can be enjoyed as a standalone. Together, the Thorne brothers own a turnkey construction business, and each book focuses on one of the six siblings. This story is about Beckett Thorne, the eldest brother and financial manager of the company.
Beck also has amazing design skills. Due to shocking circumstances, the company's business loan has become due 4. Due to shocking circumstances, the company's business loan has become due, so winning the project to design a sport team owner's mansion is a definite must. Samantha Devine and her best friend Margo are business partners. Their interior design firm is on the cusp of being well-known in the Raleigh area, after only two years of being in business.
Sam left her father's very successful and nationally known construction company after years of her talent being overlooked because of her sex. Now she has the chance to truly shine, however, working with Beck will be a challenge, especially since they have a history together.
This is quite an earnest read. Beck's back story tugged at my emotions, so I was especially happy that he and his brothers turned out to be successful and kind men. I loved Sam's independence, but disliked how and why she turned out to be so strong.
Beck and Sam are two people that truly belong together, but needed some time to realize how much they compliment each other. Their sexy times are hot, both in and out of the bedroom. Overall, this is a well-written romance about two characters that I could not get enough of. Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley. The Give It Up starts off so so good and it only makes me want to read more from this author and more about the brothers. Both good at what they do, both stubborn and decided on not to get involved again, they must work together and somehow face the attraction.
Well, they decide on facing it head-on. Their story is so amazing and what happens between them is purely because of their personality. Together they are like flames in the fire. They complement each other intellectually and intimately. But their pride and strong personalities will end up tearing them apart. I loved this rollercoaster of emotions so much! Except that, we learn a lot about the brothers. We learn the hardships Becket has been through to bring his family together.
He has a lot of issues, he is private and that makes him even more interesting. His focus on the company is only for the family, not necessarily for the money. I find him so interesting and intriguing. One can analyze a romance story based on how the couple looks together, based on how their passion is depicted.
But what Lee Kilraine manages to do with this first book Give It Up impressive and beautiful. I loved it so so much and I am so happy I got to read book 2 as well. Oct 08, C. Hrivnak rated it it was amazing. The Throne brothers, aside from a construction business, have a long line of former lovers under their belt which is established throughout the beginning of the novel.
Beckett, in particular, believes in this curse due to the fact that all of the families' relationships, however brief, are quick to fade into the black as quick as they were to begin. He doesn't have time to attempt any such maneuvers with anyone in particular. Well, that is except one woman who slipped through his fingers after a The Throne brothers, aside from a construction business, have a long line of former lovers under their belt which is established throughout the beginning of the novel.
Well, that is except one woman who slipped through his fingers after a steamy encounter. Samantha Devine has worked her butt off to establish her design business with her best friend. Coming from a background where her father is a well-known builder, she abandoned him due to his mistreatment. And despite all odds, she'd obviously do anything to keep it afloat. The universe or the author in this case works it's magic by bringing in a client who wants both Samantha and Beckett's companies to work together to create the perfect home in five months.
Five months! I could not imagine a project that huge complete in that short amount of time let alone work with someone I had a, well, pleasant encounter that turned sour. Anyway, Samantha and Beckett struggle initially to put their differences to aside to complete the task.
Only their way of putting them aside is not the conventional way we would perceive to taking care of them This one pertaining to Beckett and Sam, is the perfect beginning to a series and I am completely more than ready to jump into the sequel! Give It Up Give It Up Lee Kilraine Thorne Brothers 1 The Thorne brothers were separated young and for the most part have managed to find one another again, set up a business together and do well for themselves.
There is one brother still unaccounted for that they are looking for but otherwise they work together well, are close and take care of one another. They are also charming, attractive and eagerly sought out by those looking for a bit of time between the sheets.
In book one we meet the brothers and Give It Up by Lee Kilraine Thorne Brothers 1 The Thorne brothers were separated young and for the most part have managed to find one another again, set up a business together and do well for themselves. In book one we meet the brothers and hear the story of Beckett, the oldest brother. They are forced into close proximity, have to make compromises and begin to care for one another…though it takes a bit of doing for them to reach the HEA conclusion hoped for.
There are no real big surprises in this story and the romance is fairly straight forward. I am interested in finding out more about the other brothers and also about the twist their private investigator brings to them near the end.
Did I enjoy the book? Yes Will I read more in the series? More than likely Am I willing to read more books by this author? Jun 19, Claire rated it it was ok. I received Give it Up as part of a Goodreads giveaway. If he can nail a proposal for a potential client--the wife of a professional hockey coach--it could be the project that puts them on the map in Raleigh.

What he doesn't expect, however, is to run into Samantha Devine, a former one-night stand and head of her own fledgling design company. When the pair are forced to work together, their professional rivalry and personal chemistry come head to head with explosive results.
This was a fine book; however, I wasn't bowled over by this particular storyline. Their client was kooky to the point of caricature same with her father's cruelty and I'm not sure I ever felt love develop between the Sam and Beckett. Hot sex? Emotional connection? A bit less so. However, I'm more interested in the rest of the series, which will clearly set up love stories for the other brothers in the future. I liked that Ash is gay, as it's not a theme of "typical" mainstream romance novels, and I'm excited for the possibilities that the series at large might hold.

However, it is not a carbon copy of the Cates Brothers. Beck and his brothers run a construction company and are hoping to secure a big job. Samantha, who had a fling with Beck awhile ago, is hoping to land the same job. When the homeowner wants them to Give It Up together sparks start to fly.
Both Beck and Sam have been hurt by their families and have issues with relationships. I know you'll start rooting for them to succeed both professionally and romantically like I did. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC for an honest review.
Jul 06, Rady Reads rated it it was amazing. Give It Up was brilliantly written story with scenes hot almost burning the sheets and humorous side. The plot was entertaining, funny and kept you hungry for the next chapter. It's beautifully wrapped up and also the characters are mix of perfection. In the beginning it seems like Samantha and Beckett won't be able to get over their one night stand 2 years prior.
