You can hear snatches from interviews with pot smokers and a news guy rattling off satistics, among other things. I like it when albums do this because it usually adds to the atmosphere of an album; something you can immerse yourself in.
The main problem with this record, and it is a big one, are the vocals. The singer sounds like a vengeful spirit from another dimension, screaming constantly in this gutteral, rattlely voice. Had I not had the lyrics booklit to read along with, I would have just assumed the singer was talking about death, hate, war, murder, and other Deathcore stuff.
And that's what he sounds like he belongs in, a Deathcore band. It's really distracting and doesn't suit the subject matter of the songs at all. Think about the line "Load bongs, not guns". Nice anti-war sentiment, right?
Unfortunately, it really loses its power when a guy screams it like a Bongzilla - Stash / Methods For Attaining Extreme Altitudes (CD) with a thirst for the blood of the innocent. So here's what I say: if you like the vocal style you'd associate with the likes of Whitechapel and Chelsea Grin, but also dig, or are curious about, Doom and Stoner Metal then you should check this CD out.
I doubt you'll be disappointed. But if you're like me and just can't seem to appreciate that shrieking, growling sound, you might want to look elsewhere. One person found this helpful. I love this band it is just plane good music. The bass on this and all there albums are really good. Its just good heavy rock. I say try and get all bongzilla albums. Top international reviews. Even the disc itself is a picture of an ash-tray full of roaches. The sludgy Sabbath-y grooves are teamed with the grimmest vocalist since Johnny Morrow, and there's a more than liberal sprinkling of weed-themed TV samples to ensure you don't forget about their green manifesto.
Blatant and brilliant. Thank you for your feedback. Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again. Just like many bands i crave to discover,i do not always jump in, sometimes you just don't want to belive the hipe,no regrets here on my part.
