That revision made me really want to see the show and at some point I'm sure I will. I just can't say enough good things about the singers. With this new cast it is as fresh and relevant as it can be and always has been.
It still have something to say we all need to hear and boy does this recording put that across. This is just all my humble opinion, of course.
So, why only a four star review? I'd get one with the jewel box case intact. Another broken jewel box. Stop it! Also, my best friend just sent me a book for my birthday he ordered through you and it arrived in pretty banged up shape also.
I never had this problem until about year ago and now I'm almost afraid to order not knowing what condition the package will arrive in. The scenes on the Tony Award broadcast seemed so promising. But a second listening confirmed my first impression.
The engineering produced maximum squalling, especially from the majority of the lead performers. There are only a few numbers where the score's lyricism prevails over the gimmicky arrangements. I cannot comment on the hit show's quality on stage, but the recording is a major disappointment. This latest and possibly best and most realistic of its predecessors shines from start to finish! High energy and an Please Come To Boston - Dennis Raley - Oklahoma Rain (CD mix of voices lead the list of reasons to make this a part of the collection.
I have just scored tickets a second time to see this remarkable ensemble cast which includes Tony winner Ali Stroker again before it ends its run mid-January! But in the meantime I have a wonderful keepsake to go to over and over as a fond reminder of how special an evening it was!!! This production won best musical revival Tony - I guess you have to see it but the cd is a letdown. Nothing wrong with making it a country version, but the singers are mostly terrible, sounding more like Hee Haw than Broadway.
Stick to movie soundtrack for enjoyable, really natural singing. And this cd only runs 59 minutes - even if not performed on stage they could have gotten overture from somewhere. This cd does include 2 songs not usually recorded in Oklahoma albums. A whole different feel to a year old classic. First, I have not seen the new production except the excerpt that appeared on the Tony Award Show. But, just listening to this music and the way it has been newly arranged shows a complete rethinking of this show.
The music is contemporary and earthy and the singing is amazing. Ali Stroker as Ado Annie will knock your socks off. I have seen and been in multiple productions of "Oklahoma" and was pretty burned out on the show. But, now I am excited and and looking forward to seeing this production.
This soundtrack is fantastic. The Please Come To Boston - Dennis Raley - Oklahoma Rain (CD of music breathes new life into a musical that has been done the same way for so long.
