Young Love - Sonny James Gone - Ferlin Husky Alone With You - Faron Young Location: The island of Montreal. I have the Frank Sinatra one. It was remastered by Larry Walsh. Sean KeaneJul 22, JimboJul 22, I have both the 50th Anniversary promo box and the 60th Anniversary commercial release. Theres a book that went along with the 50th promo set which is pretty interesting. I remember reading that they could never have commercially released the book because they didn't have the publishing rights to a lot of the pictures.
Its worth seeking out - I've seen a few cheap copies come up on ebay over the years or try www. It came out both as a paperback and a hardcover. One thing that bugs me about both the 50th and 60th anniversary releases is that theres not a single song by Judy Garland on either of these compilations - have they completely forgotten she was on Capitol? I have the 50th promo set. I get the impression that they used existing digital masters for at least some stuff on this set, but wouldn't swear to it. MMMYoung At Heart - Various - Capitol Records Sixtieth Anniversary 1942-2002 (CD), Jul 22, Location: New Jersey.

I just asked the clerk to hand the box to me, I Young At Heart - Various - Capitol Records Sixtieth Anniversary 1942-2002 (CD) a quick look and just plunked down the cash - pure impulse buy! What I did not realize is until after I had gotten home, much later in the day, that I had purchased the deluxe hard-bound edition.
The packaging on the deluxe edition is very nicely done. The edition comes with a hard-bound book of photographs printed on high quality paper and each CD is housed in a cloth bound digi-pack. Each CD has it's own liner notes and track listings complete with studio name, session dates and the session players, when available.
I found this to be very odd! Why would Capitol not master their own anniversary box set in-house? Why would they contract it out? Other than this information there are no other mastering credits or information on the sources used for the set. Generally, I like the sound on this set.
It is not mastered "hot". The presentation is pretty straight forward. On another thread it was suggested that this set may simply consist of "lifts" from previously mastered tracks. I can neither confirm or dispute this ascertain.
I do hear surface noise a few pops and clicks on the tracks taken from metal parts or acetates and I do hear tape hiss on many of the tracks from the 50's and 60's.
As I will explain later, there are some oddities in the versions that were selected for this set. A lot of single versions were used on this set.
I do not believe that no-noise was deployed on the most of the tracks. There may be exceptions, however.
While the sound on this set is not brilliant or outstanding, it is very good. I will be using a number of the tracks from this box set on my taping project. Track Line-ups by Disc tracks are not strictly presented chronological on all discs Disc 1 - All tracks are Mono 1.
